STAGE STRUCK! 2027
ADFA is excited to announce Stage Struck! 2027, the Edmonton Region Adult One Act Play Festival which will take place May 7-8, 2027 at Walterdale Theatre, 10322 83 Ave.
This year we are accepting 9 submissions. Over two days, we will have 3 sessions with 3 one acts per session depending on the running time of each. Festival acceptance will be on a first come-first serve basis. If we receive more than nine submissions, they will go onto a waiting list as they are received. If you choose to submit more than one production, please indicate which one is your first choice, as we are committed to giving opportunities to as many different groups as possible, which means if we receive more than 9 different applications from 9 different groups, your first choice will be the one presented.
Registration Requirements:
A completed registration form needs to be completed and submitted no later than Monday, January 25th, 2027 with a $50 dollar non-refundable registration fee.
Entries shall be one-act plays. No adaptations or excerpts will be accepted.
All plays must have a running time of at least ten (10) minutes and be no more than sixty (60) minutes in length.
Each show must be set up in 10 minutes and struck in 5 minutes.
All actors should be predominantly adult and from the Edmonton area.
If submitting an established work, the performing group is responsible for royalty payments.
Each group is responsible for having a stage manager to call cues and technical director to help with sound and lighting design. We will be providing one technician to run lights and sound at the venue.
Any member of a professional performing arts association (i.e. CAEA) is prohibited from participating in this festival.
Final script as well as cast and production team information should be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than April 5th, 2027
Please note that the committee will endeavour to accommodate performance requests, but strongly suggests that performers be available for any of the 3 potential performance slots (Friday evening/Saturday matinee/ Saturday evening).

Awards are presented for Outstanding Production, Outstanding Direction, Outstanding Performances (2), Outstanding Technical Merit, and Outstanding New Work!
Winner of the Outstanding Production - chosen by a professional adjudicator - will represent Edmonton at the Provincial One-Act Festival held in Red Deer, May 28 & 29, 2027 at Scott Block Theatre.. Winning plays from each region will receive funding from the Alberta Drama Festival Association to help cover travel expenses, hotel expenses, and a per diem each day of the festival to assist in their participation in the Provincial Festival.

2027 Edmonton Region One-Act Play Festival

This application must be accompanied by a fifty-dollar ($50), non-refundable, entry fee made payable to the Edmonton Region One Act Play Festival. Registration includes a membership in the Alberta Drama Festival Association (ADFA), entitling attendance and voting privileges at ADFA’s Annual General Meeting.Please send your $50 registration fee via E-transfer to stage.struck.registrar.fees@gmail.com

Please send an electronic copy of your group’s logo and/or play graphic for programme and advertising purposes. Entries must comply with copyright laws and provide proof of royalty payment or permission from the author.
The following must be sent to the Registration Coordinator by the program information deadline April 5, 2027:
A clean, published copy of the script or clean manuscript if an original work.
Cast and crew information
Play Synopsis, setting, acknowledgements, audience advisories, etc.
Written approval of changes/revisions to script(s), if applicable.

REGIONAL AND PROVINCIAL ONE ACT FESTIVAL RULES (please read all 12 rules):
Entries shall be one-act plays. No adaptations or excerpts will be accepted.
All plays must have a running time of at least ten (10) minutes and not more than sixty (60) minutes in length.
Setup time for each play shall be limited to a maximum of ten (10) minutes; strike time shall be a maximum of five (5) minutes. Please leave the stage clean for the next performers.
Casts and crews shall be predominantly adults. The plays may come from amateur theatre troupes, higher educational institutions or any other community group. No member of any Professional Performing Arts Union may participate in any capacity with any ADFA Festival productions.
Each performing group will pay an entry fee, $25 of which will make them a member of ADFA. Entrants must sign registration forms stating that they have read and understood the festival rules.
Groups entering the regional festival and the selected entries in the provincial festival must provide a clean copy of the script for the adjudicators at least two weeks before the festivals. (Photocopies of published works are not permitted. New works must not have notes or alterations written on the script.)
The participants in a play entering any festival are responsible for supplying and transporting to and from the festival any set, furniture, properties, etc.
Please have both a stage manager and a technical director so that if your play is chosen for the Provincials you will have the requisite technical people available.
A New Work* is defined by ADFA as a play which has not been performed as a fully stage production prior to 30 days before the Regional Festival to which it has been registered nor has it ever been adjudicated in any form.
All productions presented at both Regional and Provincial Festivals must be fully realized performances in order to be eligible for awards.
At the request of the participating group, ineligible productions may still receive a professional adjudication, but will not be considered in the adjudicated rankings or award recommendations.
Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis to allow for emergency situations.
